From Classroom to Courtroom, Engaged Southern Couple Shows Off Their Love

Being public school teachers was a rewarding profession for both Chanelle and Lukas in many ways, but perhaps the most surprising way was in the area of love. It was through preparing to become teachers that Lukas and Chanelle met. Many late night prep sessions became impromptu get-to-know-you sessions. The couple spent two years together in Memphis, TN, but had to endure three years of long distance after that, with Chanelle remaining in Memphis while Syracuse alumnus Lukas left teaching to pursue a law degree at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Chanelle, a graduate of Western New England University, ended up following in Lukas’ footsteps and she became a law clerk.

As soon as Lukas, now a legal associate, graduated from Emory, he was ready to ask Chanelle the most important question of their lives. On the couple’s fifth anniversary, and immediately following finals and graduation festivities, Lukas drove from Atlanta to Memphis, through the night, to get to his girl. In the morning he ushered Chanelle off to a day of pampering, and he told her to expect a fun night out. As the evening descended, and to kick off a celebratory night, Lukas took Chanelle on a stroll along the Mississippi River and over to a statue where some years prior the couple had carved their initials onto it. As Chanelle reminisced at that statue, Lukas got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage, to which she said yes without hesitation. The couple were wed in January of 2022, in Atlanta.
