Kate and Dami met one another while attending Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK. Yet the couple had spent years in their relationship dating long distance. Thankfully, their love stood the test of time and space. After four years together, when it came time to make Kate his girl for life, Dami conjured an intricate plan. On the couple’s dating anniversary in 2018, he devised a two-day “scavenger hunt” that led up to the proposal. Like their love, the clues wove Kate through time and space, taking her to the nail salon, brunch with friends, massages, the shopping mall and, ultimately, a pier at the park on the second day, where Dami was waiting for her. Unknown to Kate at the time, their families were notified about the proposal in progress and they traveled in to witness the magic. They cheered as he popped the question and a photographer emerged from the bushes, who had been capturing everything. Then, everyone celebrated the pair at Kate’s favorite restaurant. Equally elaborate, the couple’s wedding boasted two marriage ceremonies: first, a traditional Nigerian one and the next day, an American-style one. Throughout both, there were many nods to Dami’s heritage infused in their celebration. On that crisp fall day, in front of 200 guests, Kate was walked down the aisle during their outdoor ceremony by her father. And at the reception, everyone, especially the newlyweds, danced late into the night with love and admiration for the moment and each other.

MENU: Passed hors d’oeuvres began with Italian stuffed mushrooms, chicken satay and shrimp skewers. Then a dual plated dinner of braised beef tips and chicken marsala, roasted root vegetables, and gouda mashed potatoes on the side was served.

DESSERT: Cake of almond cake with fudge filling, a middle tier of chocolate cake with buttercream filling, and a bottom tier was almond cake with buttercream filling

FIRST DANCE SONG: “Kiss Me” by Ed Sheeran

INSPIRATION: First Kate began with a favorite color combination of hers: ivory, green, and gold. She felt they were very elegant. As she planned the wedding herself, she added two bridge colors of maroon and burnt orange to help bring in the warmth of fall.

SPECIAL FEATURES: the couple exited their reception in a Chevy Corvette; sparkler send-off; traditionally in Nigerian weddings the family honors the bride and groom with monogrammed gifts for everyone, so they had a selection of monogrammed cups, ink pens, note pads, and hand towels that guests could take as favors; Kate DIY’d the floral arrangements and she designed her stationary and signage using Canva; the couple had two wedding ceremonies: an American-style one and a traditional Nigerian one; the groom wore a custom teal tuxedo suit
